England to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the relatively straightforward passage for a tournament hosted across the majority of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an English men’s game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the England side for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The team are set to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from Uefa and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the location by around fifty protesters, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were held up with slogans stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The first match of the tournament will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be used for European club finals from next season, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the last eight staged at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we love about the football – its emotion and power to foster unity.”

In excess of three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a Euro tournament, are projected to be made available to attendees.
