Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of earning a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup events. The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday. An Incredible Return from Injury Vonn ended her career in early 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely. She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics. "In Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning 20 years. She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup circuit features a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
