This Special Release Pokémon Card Aims to Be Super Effective On Resellers

Marking the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company and London's Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Fans can look forward to offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the museum's theme. The big draw, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both on-site at the museum and online between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated tome filled with stunning illustrations that show Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor could produce after trainers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the Galapagos teemed with Pidgeys rather than finches. A key appeal stems from the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

It is common for The Pokémon Company special edition cards celebrating big events or brand collaborations. Many of these promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, with fans able to get just one card per purchase.

Limiting Speculator Interest

Per an official statement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold beyond the museum walls. But, broader availability is slated for specific stores within the UK. Importantly, fans cannot purchase this promo through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to Chicago in the coming months.

"Every penny of sales made in the Museum shop and its web shop, including Pokémon products, support the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the research of hundreds of researchers who are conducting studies and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it notes.
