The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting âsix sevenâ â inspired by a rap song lyric â often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year. A Peaceful Retirement This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge âdistant from barbecues and spitsâ, according to the ceremony's official statement. âThis swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,â said the event host, in a notably cheerful message. âIt embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.â Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
