Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior political figure said the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
